Chandra Yoga: Śubhapati

Chandra yoga is important as it is the manas that defines the manuṣya. The moon sign lord is called the śubhapati. This is always a form of Viṣṇu and can alter the way the thoughts move in the chart.

The objective of the śubhapati is sustenance and for this it seeks रयि (rayi) which is molecular food packets that act as building blocks for the body. This demand of rayi-food comes from the blood that is again ruled by the Moon. Rayi includes food, medicine and everything that is required for the body to survive in this bhūloka. In this sense, so long as this rayi-demand function works in the blood system, the being tends to live. This makes the Moon the principal giver of longevity – the immediate Brahmā of the horoscope.

Lord of Janma Nakṣatra is tasked with bringing prāṇa from the vāyu-breath. For humans this is the oxygen and it is critical for survival. We can stay for a few days without food but not for long without air. The demand for prāṇa-air is also generated by the blood that releases cardon-dioxide CO2 in exchange for oxygen O2. The CO2 is carried to the trees who convert them back to oxygen. This healthy relationship between man and tree causes the CO2 ⇄ O2 balance in the atmosphere. This is a form of Śiva called Bhairava, the protector of Earth-Mother Parvati.
